The wife and I are attempting our first tile job. We've already purchased the tiles, grout, and that cement stuff that goes under the tile.

We'll need to get the tools of the trade fairly soon, 'cause I've just ripped up the old bathroom floor :)

I do see a potential problem, need advice please --

The flooring I just ripped out was linoleum with very heavy adhesive. Under that I can see the black mastic looking adhesive from a previous linoleum floor.

I think it should be cleaned down to the bare concrete, but a buddy of mine just stopped by and said, "Nah, just start laying the new floor over that shit".

If that's not a problem, I'll just get right back to work :) If that's kinda stupid, what's used to get the floor back to bare concrete?

As long as what is already on the concrete is solid, you can just tile over it. The thinset will adhere to it just fine.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm on my way gathering the tools, sponges, etc. My buddy has a wet saw, tile cutter I can borrow.

This floor is going in today.
