Ok last fall I planted a new lawn witch worked out great. Now I am having a problem with moles.I was out walking around the property today and I must have stepped on a hundred tunnels.I couldnt find any holes just tunnels everywhere. The property is 1 acre with a small stream across the back.
how do you get rid of these pests or should I just live with them until the snakes come out again?

There is a good training film out there about getting rid of moles. Called Caddy Shack with Chevy Chase. :)
There are ultrasonic products you can buy which should cover one acre. Never used anything like that so couldn't tell you if they work.

I have moles in my backyard, too, - - they say to drop a teaspoon full of mole poison into the tunnel, - - but I'm too worried about my dog gettin' at it.
I've also heard of the ultrasonic products Rich is talkin' about, - - they don't seem to like 'noise' infiltrating their tunnel complex, - - maybe you should just blast some 'rap' in there, - - that oughta' get rid of 'em!!

Roll the yard. Keep watch, when you see one digging stick a shevel behind it. You will have it trapped. Put a shevel ahead of it and pop him out of the ground. Your best time of the day is morning. Have you ever seen one of those ugly things? Ground Hogs and Badgers are much better looking.
Or you could get rid of the food supply and they will go away.
Caddy Shack was suggested to me a few years back. I couldn't get a permit for the C4.
You guys know why the 4th of July is the american male's favorite holiday?
Because we get to mix booze with explosives!:-)

I'll tell ya what works for me, get a few cats, and starve em. The moles won't stand a chance! I hear they taste just like mice, the cats don't care what they look like.

A few 500 pound kitty cats. The neighbors dogs will also come up missing with the moles:D

So do all cats talk to you, or just a select few?:)

I've only been to Indiana a few times, but I've never seen one of these there:

The best advice was offered by rabadger. Imagine that trying to get rid of his cousins. I have seen his way work. My next door neighbor used that method and it worked. I guess over an acre it might be a bit tricky. Did you sod the entire acre, goodness that must have been fun.

I seeded the yard, First thing that happed was a deer feeding. Then it crossed the street into the neighbors garden laid down and gave birth. Hung around all summer. Then one year later after cutting the new lawn a few times, the moles appeared. I had just over an acher. If you really look close you can see the tunnels.

I can tell you to forget about trying to find their home and destroying it! We excavated our area for a new home in October and broke into a nest of the little *&^% . I ran around stomping in a furry . I know what my inlaws go through with the ones they have and didn't want that to start here. Even with all that, we are going to have fun in the spring. I have came across a few of them in the snow since. So if you do find a solution let us know and I'll do the same if I do.
By the way ... exact same layout here too .... an acre of land with a streem. We even have the deer on the front lawn once in a while. You aren't my neighbour down the streem by chance are you? If you are come get your moles ...... :) LOL!!!!

There are ultrasonic products you can buy which should cover one acre. Never used anything like that so couldn't tell you if they work.Reminds me of a mole problem I had years ago in a vegetable garden I had when I lived in the country on 5 acres. The first year after putting in the garden the moles (actually one mole) took over. Ruined it.
Went to a lawn and garden store and asked what they recommend. They showed me an electronic device and said they had good success with them. The rest of the conversation went sort of like this:
What happens to the moles when you use this device?
They move off your property because they can't stand the sound.
You mean they go onto my neighbors yard?
Probably.
Lady you don't understand. I don't want the mole to move, I want to KILL THE SOB!!!
Bought a trap that clamps down on the moles killing them and at first had no luck, the mole would dig around the trap. After trial and error I learned to set it properly and was able to get my mole.

I thought i already posted this, but i don't see it anywhere. I have had the best luck with a trap called the mole eliminator mole trap. It looks like a big pair of spring loaded scissors. They arn't foolproof, but have worked better than anything else. My moles seem to be real paranoid, so i have to be very carefull not to disturb any tunnels when setting it otherwise i have had no luck.

Well I tried some repellant and it didnt work. But I did find a main tunnel,it goes from one side of my property to the other.I just purchased a trap and set it today.I dont know why its called a trap when it is actually 6 spikes that are springloaded over the tunnel

I use a Victor spear type trap, works well and you don't have to dig many holes to set the trap.
check out this website, the "Moleman" has way too interest in the subject

When I had this problem I called the local "mole man" and the problem went away. They charge per mole that they kill

As luck would have it today is "mole day"
On the 23rd of October from 6:02 AM to 6:02 PM (6:02 10/23) is National Mole Day, a day of appreciation for chemistry and Avogadro’s Number (6.02 x 10^23), the basic measuring unit in chemistry. A Mole is simply an amount of substance, like a dozen. It is based on the number of atoms in 0.012 kilograms of carbon-12, currently empirically measured at 6.02214179(30)×10^23 mol-1.

No word of a lie, when I was a little girl my dad had moles in the garden, he was drying off one day after his bath looking out of the window and he saw a mole hill moving, he ran outside butt naked (forgetting to put on a gown in his rage) and yelled at the mole and scared it away.
This was about 17 years ago and we have NEVER had moles in our garden since. So naked yelling seems to be a good start...

I've heard dachshunds are amazing at mole control. Their long body shape was bred specifically to allow them easy access into tunnels.

I have an article around here somewhere about using an application of castor oil. You spray an area to drive the moles out of your yard (and into your neighbors), then spray along the fence line to keep them from coming back. Non-toxic. Putting out poision will only risk someone's dog or cat.

Forgot to mention cats and Jack Russell's. Gives them something to do (the cats and dogs, that is).

I say to get a cat. Less time wasted sitting on the porch with a gun yet just as effective.

yeah I prefer the manual traps for them and gophers, its also satisfying to see the dead critter so you know for sure you got it.
