I'm currently in the middle of a bathroom remodeling project, part of which involves the installation of a shower enclosure that requires a 2 inch PVC drain. The old 2 inch drain (and the remainder of the drainage system) is copper.
I've removed the copper P-trap down to the last 2 inch elbow coming out of the main 4 inch main drain.
My question: is there an acceptable and sound way to join the new PVC to the old copper--preferrably at the existing copper elbow?

Thanks

I hope you left a couple of inches of straight pipe before the elbow. They sell adapters for all sizes. First you slide over the copper pipe a big plastic nut(with threads inside) then you slide over the copper pipe a white plastic ring then you slide over the copper pipe the rest of the adapter(which has threads on the outside) and screw the pieces together and voala! you can then continue with ABS. If you look under any sink you will find a similar adapter connecting the sink tail piece to ABS plumbing.
