As a newby, I made extension jambs for replacement windows on newly sheetrocked and painted wall...then found this website and think I'm in a fix.

I built a box just like TnAndy said, but mine is 1/8th inch wider than my sheet rock. We have already painted the wall. Will I have to do the boxes over, or is there a way to save my day's work? :(

I don't want a gap at the outside of the window, especially if it can be seen when I look across the room. I'm actully thinking of cutting a piece of trim and putting it on the outside of the stock trim to make it look like I intended to have an elaborate custom job. :)

Any suggestions?

Side on Home Depot....my #1 grade tile turns out to be 1/8th off square and we didn't catch it until half the floor was finished. Installer couldn't figure why he wasn't cutting true today. Any recourse.

I always freehand cut my jambs. Measure at one corner, measure at the other corner, then make a line on the wood. Move the fence on the tablesaw over and follow the line. Yes, it takes a bit longer but it always fits and my casing is always perfect. (And actually once you get used to it there is no time loss) Finding variances of 1/4 inch is not uncommon when measuring from window to edge of sheetrock.

As far as your tile goes I think I'd be questioning your installer's competence. Any installer worth having doesn't assume the tiles are square. They know better.

DO you mean your jamb sticks out of the wall an 1/8th of an inch past the sheetrock? If so, the easiest fix I can think of is ( of course this depends on what moulding your using) taking a 1x4 trim and cutting down the inside lip to make the alowance room for the 1/8 difference, that way your trim still fits tight to the wall and you won't have to replace the jambs. Just a thought, I might have mis-understood your original post.
