The land I am looking to buy has a domestic well with a pump. Not knowing anything about these, we would like to build a home but are unsure about the water source.

How do we know the water is safe enough to use/drink or how does it get sanitized?

Can someone give me an intro to domestic wells and how they work? Any info about this would be appreciated. Sorry for the noob questions. Thanks!

I would contact a local well drilling company or pump installer. They can test the well so you know how much water you will be getting from it. They can also either test the quality of the water for you or steer you to someone who can. Depending on where you are, the water can be perfectly clean as it comes out or you may need some filters. We live up in the mountains and our well tested perfectly clean. But there isn't much above us to polute it. If you are buying land with an existing well, I would definitely have it tested so you know for sure that you are getting what you are paying for.
