Hello,

I am seperating a business and have to build a fire wall between the 2.

1. Live in NJ
2. Cement foundation circa 1940 rebar reinforced cement 3ft thick pier structure. Built like an old WWII bunker.
3. 30 ft. contiunuous section to be built.
4. fire stops in wall

Can I build a continuous wall and how should I lay it out 15ft. at a time then attach?

Any good reccommendations for attaching wall to floor? Do I need to drill then attach lags?

22. cal nailing attachment for cement work?

Fire rated 5/8 drywall needed for code.

I am more concerned about the cement attaching being that it is an older structure. I am thinking about using construction adhesive, with drill holes with lag L shape attachments for sill plate. Does it need to be treated lumber for floor sill plate?

Any suggestions would be great

Thanks,
eg

Can't help much here. Usually fire separations go right from the bottom ( and I mean bottom) right up through the attic to the underside of the roof. Wall penetrations by wires and pipes are strictly enforced. I'm surprised that only 5/8 drywall is enough. Usually it's at least 2 layers of 5/8 drywall with joints staggered. You better get local knowledge on this one.

If you use 5/8" type X drywall on both sides you should be covered.
As far as attaching walls to concrete - drill and epoxy all-thread, use expansion anchors, or hilti nail it.

thanks for info, I am going to see what my buddy wants to do as far as inspection my fire marshall. It seems that the owner of the building has been sited for violations in the past and will be back to see if the proper stuff has been taken care. Hope it all works out and isn't a pain in the butt. He has a drop ceiling and going all the way would be the right way. I just don't know if I want to get involved with all the potential BS.

Thanks

to all.
