I will do my best to describe this, please bear with me...
I want to open the stairwell up and eliminate the header and joists that are attached at the bottom of the first floor. This will open it up at the first floor and I would like to put in a skylight too. The header (2 - 2x8s) is fastened with joist hangers to the joists running parallel to the stairs. There are 2 joists also fastened to the header with joist hangers and the joists are resting on the outside wall.
I don't think it is supporting anything so I don't see a problem - anyone else have an opinion on this?
