snipe

Just wanted to say hello to the nice forum you have here. I notice there is not much in content at this point, but think you have some great information in what you do have.
If I may make a suggestion? I suggest you add a forum or topic on tools. Tools for woodworking or general construction would be helpful.
My first question for the Tools category is -
How do I do away with the snipe at the ends of the boards on my Delta 12.5" planer?
Thanks

I appreciate the comments on the available information and Welcome to the forum...
As to your question... I have the same planer and I think the reason for the snipe is the outfeed table is not long enough and it allows longer boards to drop off when it gets close to the end. Usually I'll hold the board until it exits the planer or if I have a outfeed roller handy I will put that up.
Anybody else have suggestions for this situation?

Hi - I'm glad to see a board dedicated to woodworking, capentry, etc. I used to be an avid woodworker - took it up as a hobby some 15 years ago, but became too stressful as I became more proficient and my work became more attractive... more peple wanted it. It got to the point that I had to work 12 hours a day to keep up with the demand. I quit my "hobby" some 5 years ago, but kept most of my equipment - except my planer and dust collector.

About the snipe prblem - it has more to do with the location of the infeed and outfeed rollers, than the table itsef. I was never able to correct the problem to my satisfaction - so, I just had to live with it. It doesn't matter much if you start with rough lumber, as the ends most always have to be wasted due to imperfections. Regards. Oldfella

Welcome to the forum oldfella.
I agree with you on the placement of the infeed/outfeed rollers.. but in addition to that I believe it has to do with the outfeed table also. If there is nothing to hold the board at the same state during the outfeed it will "fall" a little and you have snipe. Full outfeed table or outfeed roller placed at the right spot.. and the board doesn't "fall" and doesn't hit the blades.
