Can I use a framing nail gun (air) to fasten a stud to a concrete floor?
If so what kind of nail will I need?

I've never heard of a framing nailer being able to shoot into concrete unless it's extremely green (freshly poured). I would think it would destroy the driving pin of the nailer. I've driven 16d nails into green concrete when setting a nailer for stemwall forms but never into cured concrete (except for hardened concrete nails / pins). If you really need to drive into concrete rent a Hilti gun.

I didn't think it had the power to drive a nail into concrete but I thought I would ask before I ruined my framing nailer.
Thanks for the answer!

I am trying to finish my basement and I have a 40" concrete wall then a ledge. I need a stud nailed to the floor and then I need to fasten the top board which is a 2X8 that will lay on top of the ledge at the 40" height.
With studs every 24" for the wall.
I don't know the best way to fasten the 2X8 to the ledge!
I guess nailing the stud to the floor and nailing the 2X8 to the concrete ledge is the way to go?
Any advice would be a great help.
Thanks,

Rich

IC. My suggestion would be to build a typical framed wall with sill plate and a top plate (your 2x8) then put it in place and Hilti nail (powder actuated nailer) the 2x8 into the ledge and the sill plate into the floor.
That may be what you're describing but you say "Nail the stud to the floor" which I'm assuming you would have to toe-nail the stud with no sill plate. If that is what you were saying it would be easier the way I described above. Hope that helps.
