View Full Version : Wall Insulation
Ok.. you all know about the project I'm working on (22k sf home). We're getting close to the framing stage and soon after will be insulation. What does everyone think is the best? Foam, loose, batts, etc? I've always used unfaced batts with vapor barrier on the hot side.. but I know there are better alternatives. I've used icynene before too - but only in areas that batts could not be stuffed.
Give me your ideas.

Some of the fancy schmancy houses I was working on last summer consisted of batts in the walls (inside walls as well for sound) and in the ceilings PLUS sprayed foam in the roof/ceiling where the roof met the walls. Why this was so, I don't know. The foam went up the roof slope about 3-4 feet. They also spray around the perimeter header and s few other places I can't remember right now. Either way, it was mainly batts with foam in special areas.
What the heck is icynene?

It's expansive spray foam that is sprayed into the stud cavities and then they shave it off flush with the studs. Provides both a vapor barrier and insulation if you use the closed cell foam.
