Thinking about buying a lot in Colorado. It has the septic and well already installed. The house would have to be build on or over some huge rocks (the size of a small garage) that probably cannot be moved. I assume this is possible. How do you go about buidling a foundation on solid rock? What is involved? I know it will take an engineer to design it but just trying to get an idea of what is involved.

*the unqualified answer*
if it's really solid, then I can't imagine too much movement and that building would be easier. The design would be harder, having to work around the rocks and such, but building would be better since you can put in some rebar and pour right on it, essentially making the rock part of your foundation. Honestly, I'd try to incorporate the rock into the basement, so that a finished basement would have a huge rock in the corner as a design element. That would look awesome. If you're going for a ranch, then making one of them a fireplace base or something would be equally if not more sweet. It'd make heating the place in the winter kind of a pain though. Or maybe not that much of a problem, since as I've stated, this is the unqualified answer.
