View Full Version : Outdoor range cost
I have posted this question on over 20 different forums with all ending in dead ends. I dont know if this is the right place to ask this and if not please forgive me.
I have run into some extra cash and would like to build a personal outdoor shooting range and shoothouse on the 47 acers that my home in on.
The range would have a back stop made of dirt 30-50 yrds long, 10ft high, and 5ft wide. The same would be on the sides 100 yrds long. (must have room for my shooting buddies) The range itself would be made of pea gravel and would have a small shed for all the range equiptment.
The shoothouse would be 1 floor with 5-6 small rooms (ex..livng room, 2 bed rooms, 1 bath, and 1 hallway) and would be made of simple plywood. There would be a back stop all aroud the house leaving enough room for a small yard within the backstop.
Can anyone please please please please tell me how much this could cost?

the reason this ends in dead ends all the time is that it's impossible to say without actually looking at it. You're talking a LOT of fill to make the berms. Plus, you're talking about a small house, not a shed. How much square footage is involved? How far away are the electrical service? How far away is the sewer, or is it going to have to have septic? What is the existing terrain like? Where is it located?
There are just too many variables to try to give an estimate over the internet. Plus, a decent estimate would take time. Time people aren't going to give for free with no chance of getting the job to recover the cost of the time.
You want to know how much it will cost? Call some people and have them give you an estimate. Want a number right now? I'll do it for $100k.

While I can't answer your question, I can help you get an answer quicker by clearing some things up.
1 - Location. It will have a significant impact on labor and materials. Where are you located?
2 - Who will do the work? Will you contract 100% of it, or do you plan on doing most/any of it?
3 - You have a large range scape and 2 buildings to build. Do you have the dirt and rock on the property (skim the dirt) or will you have it all carried in? Are there trees to be cleared, too, or is your acreage farm ground? Is it flat or hilly?
4 - Your simple buildings have no hvac, right? What about windows, do you want/need windows in the house? Do you want a concrete floor?
To get good/any quotes, you'll need to really know and communicate what you need/want. This is quite an undertaking. Lot clearing could get really expensive, and dirt/rock will too.

I think we've got a crew. We'll get Dragon to put in one of those awesome bookshelf/gun cabinet jobs and it'll be the envy of the neighborhood.

Hell yeah, sounds like a plan!!!
