So out results are in and the house we were going to buy has high levels of radon in the air and water. Any idea what systems cost to remedy this?

Would you still move in?

Thanks

Radon is in a lot of areas and probably most of us have never checked where we live. I guess there are ways to minimize the effects of radon depending how your house in constructed. The only one I've seen is where the crawl space was covered completely with plastic and all seams sealed. They then cut into the plastic sheeting a plastic vent (chimney) and ran it up through the roof like a plumbing vent stack.
If my wife found we had it she would leave quicker than I can finish this sentence. Spend some time on the internet and read all you can.

Like roger stated it can be fairly easy to mitigate the radon in the air. To do it correctly they will want to put in mitigation piping all around and under the house with an attached fractional horsepower pump with a vent stack to 10' (preferred) above roof.
The water is another story. You'll need a full fledged filtration system - which I have no experience whatsoever in.. so I won't try to fumble through it.
For the project I'm working on we've put in socked piping throughout the underslab with 2 fractional HP pumps with 2 vent stacks - cost was around $3000. The cost for after-construction mitigation is much much higher if you want to do more than what roger stated.

Well after some research it looks like companies in my area charge ~1000 for air mitigation and $4500 for water mitigation.

The air mitigation if you can run all your own pvc can be down pretty cheap. Drill a hole in the basement concrete and make a 12-16" pocket and set the depth of your dvc just below the concrete line leaving the pocket of air you just created. The pvc then runs up through the roof with a inline fan in the attic. Total cost ~300 from what I priced out.

If you can do your own plubming the water mitigation system can be had for 3200 or less.

Fortunatly for us the sellers have agreed to pay for both systems.

Thanks for the responses
