Lota money. But down to a manageable level with out making me go insane.

I've also convinced the wife to let me do granite tile countertops.

Now that the technic is 3/4" exterior ply, hardi backer, and tile. It's definitely alot more DIYer friendly.

From all of the how-to's I saw before it looked like you were building a slab for a house.

Here's the cabinet style and I got the high-sheen amber.

Yeah, but they're probably made with that old-fashioned, outdated "real wood" stuff. hahaha

D@mned real wood. Always got to be built to last. They're nice cabinets though. Dovetail drawers and all that stuff.

I may be able to get solid surface granite for super cheap too so I may end up going with that.

You know that granite looks awesome but you have to clean the heck out of it. You may want to pass up on it, and gimme the name/number of the guy who's giving you this deal. :)

Cleaning granite is no problem. If you were in Florida i'd be able to get you a heck of a deal though. Texas...not so much.

Beats the hell out of Kraftmaids.

Cabinets will be installed on October 18th/19th. My appliances come a week after that. Good times.

What don't you like about kraftmaid? I think I remember reading that you make cabinets. I've only done 4 kitchens, but have used Kraftmaid in three of them. I haven't built a house high end enough for custom cabinets. But for modular cabinets are kraftmaid not any good?

Emer, why would you want to pay more money for lower quality? Yes, I do build cabinets. And I've yet to see a bid on a Kraftmaid set that I can't beat to hell and back, with ease. And I'm not considered cheap, either.

Yeah the kraftsmaid bid I got was over priced on the Jim Bishop cabinets buy like $2000. And the quality of Jim Bishop cabinets is supposed to far exceed Kraftsmaid.

The Jim Bishop bid was actually higher than what Dragon said he would do the job for. If only Dragon was in my neck of the burbs I'd have gladly paid him rather than who I did pay.

But the cabinets are really nice and i'm not complaining about them.

I guess I really hadn't looked around enough to see that kraftmaid was expensive. I buy them order and buy them online. I like the idea of not having to go through a kitchen designer. I punch in the cabinets I want and get the price instantly.

I would like to compare the Jim Bishops. I looked at the website...Didn't see any construction difference. Mabye Dragon could point them out.
Cthomp maybe you could give me a couple of your cabinet size and price for comparison.

Thanks

Why didn't you go with concrete countertops instead of granite. They look better and the cleaning of them doesn't restrict you. You make a mistake with a cleaning compound on granite and you regret it. Plus grout is a real pain in the rear. Hope you seal it real well. If I plan on keeping my house I will rip out all tile counter tops and replace myself with concrete.

How much do concrete countertops cost? I got my granite installed at $35 a sq/ft. I've got one seem to look out for and there is a cream polish you are supposed to use once every 6 months rather than the liquid polishes from the big box stores.

Plus...i've never really found concrete countertops to be very attractive. Maybe it's just the tops i've seen.

It depends on the finish. Plus you can color it any color you want. It should cost only what the forms, bags and wwf costs. I also now understand you really got a slab instead of tiles. That does look alot better.

I had a freind do one in his kitchen and it came out beautiful.

Yeah I was going to do granite tiles. A friend did them and it came out awesome.

At the price I got for the sold granite though I couldn't pass it up. Now that I have it I'm very happy with it. It looks really nice.

Sweet. Nice resell value to. Probalby better than a concrete counter.
