Anybody ever used SolarGuard in place of Tyvek/Typar?

http://www.silvercote.com/solarguard_reflective_insulation.php

My brother, a custom and spec home builder in Indiana has used it in an uninsulated shed with typical construction, 2x4 walls etc. Black shingled roof. When it has been 80+ degrees outside, it never got above 70 inthe shed. He has suggested ussing it in our new home. Very similar to aluminium foil. Use as house wrap as well as in under the roof sheating. In the roof it must be "drooped" between framing. It is suppose to be good for convection, radiation, and conduction heat.

Just looking for some thoughts.

Is Tyvek or Typar "code" in you area or is it just "vapor barrier" in general?

What's your climate? Where are you located?

Why not use foil sheathing then?

I wish Rich would make it mandatory to put where you are from in your profile.

It would help out a lot with random questions.

again Central KY. I'll update profile. Sorry. I meant to do that when Cole asked the first time.

What exactly is foild sheathing?

This is just one example. Other building products manufacturers make different ones.

I have heard from an acquaintance that the foil wrap-type products are inferior to foil sheathing. She rates energy efficiency for homes, so I value her opinion and pass it along at face value.

Foil sheathing is insulative and structural. It's basically foil laminated onto OSB.

Reflective foil will help with convection and conduction on walls. To properly effect radiation, an air gap needs to reside behind it. Hence, it can effect radiation on a roof, but not on walls. That does not mean it's of little use.

Here's what I suggest: Use foil-faced sheathing (insulation) on the walls over the top of ply, osb, or just the studs. Use TechSheild (foil faced structural sheathing) on the roof.

Georgia Pacific makes the plywood backed stuff:
