View Full Version : fascia installation and house wrap.
As I was looking at the pictures of my addition construction, I noticed the builder placed fascia before the house wrap. Is that correct?
Shouldn't the house wrap extend under the fascia?
Should I be concerned?
Here is the picture.

I don't understand the zero over hang. Does the whole house have no over hang?
That's right. This is a track home in southern california and the roof is designed such.

Up here, we almost always have an overhang with vents to the attic, and so the housewrap ends at the top of the wall. I'd think in your case the the housewrap should extend up as high as possible, ie: under the fascia, but my climate is completely different. I can't think of any reason why you wouldn't want to seal as much as possible with housewrap, but there may be something in your local code.

Yeah I think in Florida at least an 18" over hang is required. Southern Cal. probably doesn't get much rain though.
Is there any flashing tape under the fascia or anything like that? I'd at least want flashing tape just incase anything went through that first layer of fascia at the very top.
I don't know that. I was just going through the pictures and I saw this one.
It doesn't seem there is anything behind it.

Check your local building code then and see what is required. Even if you have to make an anonymous call to your code enforcement to see what it should be.
Are you going to have gutters installed? This will pull water away from that fascia as well. I'm sure gutter last forever out west.
Yes I have gutters installed and Fascia and stucco has been painted.

You're probably fine. With the lack of rain you guys get anyhow. BUT...kep and eye on things. You'll notice if you start to have problems.

I sure as hell wouldn't be happy with it. No rain or lots of rain, it's still a short cut.
Just so you know, I wasn't happy with a LOT of things about my house.
A short cut here, a short cut there, everywhere a short on my house, E-I-E-I-Oh no.
That's why I'm here. I'm building my next one.
As CThomp said, you'll probably be okay.

LOL. Remember that I said PROBABLY. Yeah I didn't say definitely. No such thing.
All the way to the top of the wall up under the trim.
And with stucco it needs to be the same with both layers of moisture barrier!
Why take a chance?
The House Wrap Should Go On The Entire Wall Regardless Of The Fascia Construction. Where Ever There Is Wall Sheathing There Should Be House Wrap
