Hello.

I am a carpenter and I am going to build a pedestal out of concrete, and would like to know if my plan is structurally sufficiant. Here is the plan.

I will put an 8 inch diameter pier in the ground 42 inches deep and 18 inches will be above ground. For a total of 60 inch long pier. On top of that pier, will be a 30 inch in diameter pad 4 inches thick. From a side view, it will look like the letter "T". It is a monolithic pout with rebar inside of it connecting the pier to the pad. The structure will have a 750 pound wooden object placed on top of it. Is my plan sufficiant to support the wooden object? I am worried that the pad may break off from the pier. The wooden object is 27 inches in diameter and will be placed center of the concrete pad. This is an engineering question for concrete. If you cannot answer this, can you please direct me to where I may be able to get help with this?

Using # 5 Bars Running The Depth Of The Pier And Bent Into The To Slab Would Be Fine The Bars Should Be About 1-1/2 From The Bottom And I Would Put 2 In Each Direction With A # 4 Perimeter Tie 2 Inches From End Of Slab. Codes Vary And You Should Check Locally. This Is A Opinion And We Make No Representation As To The Design Stated Above Being Adequate For Your Construction.
