One of my header spans when I get to the addition on my place will be 8". I have a double 2x8 header on the existing house right now. BUT...it's not load bearing. The matching header for the addition will be a load bearing header.

Florida Building Code says that a triple 2x8 header can only go 7'5" on an exterio load bearing wall. This is in essence an exterior load bearing wall being that it will be supporting the trus load.

SO...do any companies make a 2x8 LVL or glullam or something like that? My other header length is 6'9" so i'm fine.

Nevermind...I love answering my own questions.

LP corporation makes a 1.75" x 7.25" LVL.

Problem solved. I may have to use these for both header opennings. I think they generally only sell these in fairly long lengths. I'll be cutting in the parking lot just to get them home.

Yeah I was about to reply.

You might be able to get them in 8' lengths.

8' lengths would be perfect. I guess i'll have to call around.

Either that or take a chain saw with you and rough cut them to length in the parking lot.

But I am betting you can get them to cut them for you.

It's hard to get anyone to do anything for you down here. But i'm going to try a new lumber yard. Stock Building Supply has a yard maybe 5-10 minutes from my house and I didn't even know it. So hopefully I can get what I need there.

Ended up I don't need the LVL's afterall. Regular 2x8's are fine.
