I am getting ready to cut my roof overhang off the gable end to accomodate the new framing/rafters for a room addition. I plan to remove the tile and then cut on center down the existing end rafter (thickness of sheating). This would allow me 3/4" along the old rafter for the new sheating to be placed.

Is this on the right track?

Also, When I frame up the new gable end wall with raised ceilings, is this framed to the raised ceiling (10') or is this done with standard wall framing (8') with a flat rafter on top plate?

Thanks

That's right on track. Off the top of my head, not knowing or remembering :) what the specifics are, I would say you would want to go to the 10' raised ceiling and then framed down for the lower ceiling, for what I assume is a soffit of some sorts?
