Rich, I had a question in regard to my ICF foundation. I decided that I want a bilco door and a small mud room attached to our home. The mud room will be 5 x15 feet and have a small shed roof above. I am not really interested in putting a full basement below it, because we have 1600 feet of basement already. What I am thinking of is using a concrete block crawl space. My question is what are my options for bridging the foundation to the crawl space. I have seen where precast lintels can be used in regular block walls, would this be applicable? Form the lintels into the ICF, or is there some sort of metal connection I could try. We may be going crazy trying to save money in these areas, but the fact is they are none essential living spaces and I would really rather spend the extra $1000.00 or so dollars on the kitchen or bath.

So you're trying to attach a block foundation to a ICF foundation? Or are you asking more for the door "header"? With ICF's you can add hoops or bands of rebar with horizontals top and bottom of the hoops to span a simple door opening. I've got an 8' opening spanned with rebar - engineered.

my root question is can I connect a full depth 9 feet ICF foundation to a concrete block crawlspace. Is this connection not worth the hassle?

Personally I would attach it if you are going to have the roof system etc connected. If you don't you may run into problems with the 2 structures not acting together.. whereas the roof structures would be.
If it's somewhat of a detached portion with independent roof structures then I probably wouldn't bother.
