What's the proper method of creating a Belgian Block border for a walkway, where the block is laid on edge, end-to end in a mortar base with mortared joints? I plan on doing a dry-laid bluestone field for the walk between the border. I am in southern NY with a 42" frost-line.
I am not a mason or other tradesman, just a somewhat handy homeowner.

Perhaps this article will help:
http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/knowhow/exteriors/article/0,16417,1060634-1,00.html
First thing:
People question the lack of mortar between stones (in the comments section). I agree with the author, no mortar between stones. (1) Looks better without it (2) less maintenance.
Second thing:
You won't have a solid concrete sidewalk. So, when laying the stones, you need to set them so there is concrete on both sides of the stone (unlike the article, which has a driveway on one side).
There are some stone/concrete guys on this forum. Perhaps they'll have some good pro tips to give you, or even better, pro advice.

Leave it to Roger Cook. He usually has the right answer, and I should have known this. Thanks David.
