I just got my new Dell Laptop (refurbished). I can't believe I've lived in the dark all this time. The UltraSharp display this has...well, it's worth every penny.
I placed my 17" UltraSharp (personal) next to my 15" standard (work) and it's night and day. I've been in the dark and thought I should share that with everyone else. I wish someone would have told me!!!
I highly recommend Dell refurbs. Brand new and very discounted. Now, to go look for a new 21" monitor...
Do you have a link to a site where u can purchase Dell refurbished?
I'm a mac guy though.

Mac's are great for home computing and design work. As a developer though, I have to have a PC. I've thought about Mac's ability for dual boot and running Windows, but ultimately the refurb's price was impossible to beat. Plus I'm not 100% confident of SQL Server running on a Mac.

You can get TVs, Monitors, Notebooks and Laptops. They even have a section for mp3 players and such, but never any stock!

Inspiron 9400/E1705.
It's a pretty high-end laptop. I need it for web development as my developer laptop, not just your everyday websurfer machine or dvd player. It hosts the websites I work on, the database servers I work on, and the tools such as Visual Studio and sometims PhotoShop. But I highly recommend the UltraSharp screen. I think that's different than TrueLife. I bought the laptop for the 17" screen and the fast processor, it just so happened to be UltraSharp. Now I have to get an UltraSharp for my wife (or else I won't get any new gadgets for a long time).

Do you use Windows on your mac's at all? I wanted to get an ACD, Apple Cinema Display, for my desktop. But darn it, they're $2000 for the 20".

They're still that much?
Apple doesn't make the panels, and everybody uses the same 3 or 4 manufacturers for their panels. Dell's 20" goes for $382 right now, and it's a very nice monitor (looking at one right now, previous gen). Heck, Dell's 30" is under $1,300 now.
I've used the ACDs. They were very nice, back when nobody else was making widescreen flat panel monitors that size, but now they're just the same stuff in a white case.

My mistake. I misread somewhere. The 30" are $2000 new.
I can get a discount for the 20" --> $685.
Vector - you have a prior gen 20" Dell? Do you do any serious photography at all? I do semi-serious work but haven't looked at good monitors in a while.

I used to be a semi-pro photographer, but I don't do anything but take snapshots of my little boy anymore.
I've got a friend who is very serious about his photography though, and he also runs a Dell LCD as his main monitor (two gens old now). I believe he has a system that does color calibration though.
I also believe that the Dell monitors are made by Samsung.

That speaks volumes! Samsung 212T's were considered the closest thing to an ACD, and they weren't far behind.
Do you happen to know the difference between an LCD monitor and an LCD tv? Is it just the tuner or is there more to it?

Nice post David.
I agree with you totally.
Macs are mainly for designers, and Pc laptops for business people or who needs the versatility of running many software programs, tests on the computer, etc...
