I'm currently framing my basement for drywall and have 2 questions:
1. There is a french drain running around the perimeter of the house. I have secured the bottom plates about 1 inch out from the foundation. Will extra framing support be required since I'm not attaching to the foundation?
2. Can I skip attaching a top plate to the ceiling joists? The joists are conveniently spaced 16 inches apart making it easy (tempting) to just attach to the joists and the bottom plate.
Thanks!

That works, don't forget, treated bottom plate.

Also, use approriate nails when attaching to the P.T. plate.

Just To Clear Things Up What Are You Attaching The Bottom Plate To. I Assume You Are Saying The French Drain Is On The Interior Of The House.

Eliminating The Top Plate Is Fine

Yes, the french drain is on the interior of the house. Thanks again for the replies.

What Did You Fasten The Bottom Plate To.

I fastened the bottom plate to the cement floor using construction adhesive and masonry screws.
