I have not worked in almost 19 years due to an injury but recently, I am motivated to start. I don't have a lot of options on what I can do. It's tough but it's even tougher without knowledge for one thing. I have to start from scratch. I would like to build a building for starters. It isn't a house but I will have to go thru many of the same motions never the less. Cost is why I need to learn what is necessary to build a building.

My post is a few years late but I am going to try anyways.

I don't have the land yet but my concern for now is the zoning. I would hate to start off on the wrong foot with land I cannot build on, that is for sure. I am leery of buying land or an acre on a highway. I don't know what to expect with this. Commercial land is so high in a lot of cities too.

Another concern is what's next after the land is ok. I'll admit, I have a lot to figure out. soil samples, foundation, ??? Anyways, the facts are out there even if it does seem pretty far.

I would like to build with the very basic things. If water is not required for new buildings, then I would rather not try adding this. I would need insulation and electricity. How much does it cost to connect electricity?

I looked at metal buildings and heard they cost 3.00 - 4.00 a square foot compared to a wood built building at 10.00 a square foot. My question is why does it cost so much. What about hiring someone out of the paper to work by the hour. Is metal buildings legal to erect yourself.
