I've read that hardi planks are only primed on one side. Is this still the case?

If so whats the best primer to use on the back to seal is well?

Whats the best paint that will last the longest on the front?

the hardi web page has a mega list of reccomended paints and what not but whats the best for hardi board?

Thats a great question and would love to hear the answer.
I have never heard of anyone priming the backside of Hardi-Plank though? In theory it should never see any damaging moisture.

I've heard that it just makes them last even longer than they would otherwise. Which is a long time.

I emailed james hardi so hopefully i'll hear back something sooner than later.

Got an email back from a guy at James Hardi.

He said that they've seen no kind of evidence that priming the back of the planks makes them last any longer than they normally would.

He did say though the all cut ends should be primed, painted, or caulked to seal them.

I'm heard a fast drying primer is the best to use.

CThomp - Don't quote me on this, but I think BuildingScience.com says not to prime the back of hardi for hot-humid climates like ours. You may want to check out their website before priming all those planks.

I'll look into it but I doubt if I was going to do it anyhow. Thats alot of d@mned priming for what seems like would be little return.

Just have to make sure to prime the cuts I think and caulk the seams properly.
