Hey Gang,

Just joined and I'm so glad that this forum exists...

I need to do some floor-jacking and install a beam in my 100 year old home.

So I am going to need some suggestions for the size of the beam and the post spacing...

Anyway, I'll get to the details in the DIY part of the forum. I need to make up some diagrams that I can post to show you the existing construction and the trouble spots. (Like the lack of a sistered joist around a stairwell which is the cause of most of the floor sag. And some "Hinky" joist to silplate assemblies around the chimney and plumbing stacks that have failed, or are failing which are causing some sags too....)
