Hi
I am in the process of replacing the roof structure of an old ranch with trusses. There was a porch 30' by 7' along the front of the 42' house. I already ripped it off and poured a better footer and block foundation to support the trusses. Now I want to enclose that area extending the living room and bedroom. The house is far from level and now realizes getting a level floor from new to old will be impossible with conventional framing. Now I want to construct the outside walls first directly on the sill plate and put my roof on. Then take out the old exterior wall and float the floor joists in. I am using 2x6 floor joists and 2x4 walls. I will be 2'' high if I put my floor joists in the framed wall. Should I remove my 2X6 sill plate and use a 2X8 to cover the whole block and butt my floor joists against the wall. Can I just add a 2X6 to the inside of the block wall for extra support keeping my old sill plate? Also is there anything I should know about this style of framing? not familiar with it. Any help would be great.
