I just mounted some in ceiling speakers. The ceiling that they were installed into has insullation. Will the speakers get hot enough to cause problems with the insullation? And if so do I just create some space between the speakers and the insullation?

The speakers are Polk Audio 6.5" Round that will deliver up to 100 watts. Below is a link to the actual speaker and specs.

Thanks in advance.

No, no worries. In fact, I stuffed batts up above all my in-ceiling speakers on the first floor just to act as sound deadening for the second floor.

If the insulation is loose, like blown in fiberglass or cellulose, you may want to get a backbox to keep the insulation from collecting on the cone and affecting sound.

Actually, the biggest reason to get a backbox in place is now you've created a gap in the ceiling vapor barrier (if there was in fact one) which can lead to excess moisture in the attic and hot spots, which if bad enough, and in the wrong places, can lead to ice dams. Code around here calls for any penetration of the vapor barrier to be sealed, so the speakers on my second floor had backboxes (in this case, they are 16"x24"x6" plastic enclosures, but you'd be looking for something closer to the speaker's shape for a retro) that are sealed to the vapor barrier with a flexible sealant, and the hole where the wires enter the backbox is sealed with polyurethane foam. This of course varies with the locale, since the weather dictates some of these things.

I have similar speakers in my ceiling and there was sound insulation installed above them too. Have worked fine for three years and counting!!

Yeah should be safe unless you are crazy about SQ, then there could be some alternate ways of going about things.

It should be fine. You might want to check on it every so often just to make sure nothing is going wrong though.
