Hi! I need some help with building my new dream home. I'm looking for some inspiration and even may want to purchase a good home plan.

Can anyone suggest a good site online? I'm from Avondale Estates, Georgia. So, that may give you an idea of the surrounding architecture

Thanks!
Richard

Hey There!

I would suggest taking a look at www.slhouseplans.com. It has some unique house plans and it would definitely suit your southern style.

The site may also help you decide which type of house you want to go for. But, once you decide that, it is a lot of fun to go through the different styles of housing .. A-Frames, Bungalows, Cape Cods, Chalets, Colonial style homes, Farmhouses, Federal/Georgian, Southern style homes and many more.

You can also custom design your house. I think the plans are a good buy.

Hope this helps! All the Best!

You can skim thru the books at Barnes and Noble or Borders or whereever.

I'd also suggest driving around and taking photos of houses you like. Looking at elevations is important, too.

Be careful purchasing a home plan. If you need an architect, meet with a few of them before purchasing plans.

Thanks David & Syd!

Your advise is very helpful.

@Syd
I did have a look at www.slhouseplans.com and I must say.. the plans are amazingly impressive and the custom design option is worth exploring. I might just end up buying a house plan. Thanks!!

@David
I think I will take that advice of meeting with an architect first, but with what knowledge I have of home plans, the ones at www.slhouseplans.com look amazing.

Thank you both so much!

Cheers!
Richard

Whatever home plan you decide on make sure it is the right plan for your lot. Are there potential views, is it large, narrow, wide, or on a hillside?

Many lots make it very difficult to find the right plan making a custom designed plan necessary.

Hey Richard, Just like Slhouseplans.com, I have found another great site with a humongous database of houseplans. Check it out at www.houseplancentral.com

House Plan Central has a large collection of home plans and unique house plans in many different architectural styles, from the nation's top house designers and architects. There are New home plans, Free House Plans, Small House Plans, Country House Plans, Southern House Plans, or Luxury Home Plans, basically you can say that the database is huge!!!

Hope this helps...do let us know which one you finalized on....Cheers!
