I have a problem. Ceiling mount for 30 inch wide screen TV

Now I live in the basement of a house. It has floor beams will this load be to heavy for them. Will the screws split the wood and permanently damage them to the point were the floor will fall through?

Not a clue.

The safest way to suspend something is to put the screw in shear, not withdrawal. So don't put screws into the bottom edge of the joists with something hanging off them. If you can screw into the wide sides of the joist then the screws have to be sheared to fail, much stronger. If you put the screws near the top of the joist then you are in the compression side of the joist, stronger and less apt to weaken it. If you can put the load on several, that helps. If you can put it near their bearing ends vs midspan, better yet.
