Hello

We have a large "L" shape Rec room we're making out of a old two car garage. From the layout I'll need a Girder Joist in the middle that will span a total of 19-20 feet. I'll have a post at the 7-8ft. mark off the wall with the longest span about 12-12.5 feet.

On each side of the Girder Joist will be 2x8x12's ceiling joists spaced 16" o.c. For the ceiling I'll be using 2x2 suspended ceiling tiles on a track system mounting to the 2x8's. Not sure of the actual load (p.p.s.f) but I think it's less than sheetrock. The actual ceiling height is about 7'-6" so I hope I can use several (4 or 5) 2x8's along with plywood or OSB in between. Or should I go with say 3- 2x10's with OSB or plywood in between? For the post I was thinking of 3-2x6 with OSB/Plywood if needed? There is no actic or above storage. Thanks for any input and suggestions

I think no need of using OSB/Plywood. Also don't go for any partitions like plywood in between because the plywood costs you alot. So, just try to go with polyvinyl plastics. Cheers.

I think he is talking about beams, joists and other structural members. I have not seen too many "polyvinyl plastic" beams and joists.
