I would like to remove the old sheetrock, and install new sheetrock in my 1100Sq ft home.
What does it cost per board (4x8) 1/2" to :Tape, spackle and paint?
Is the ceiling price the same as the walls? (8' ceilings)
Does it cost most or less with a texture finish?

Also is how much should I pay for demo of old sheetrock?

My home is located in Central Florida.

Can anyone guild me?
Thanx

I can't tell you what it'd cost in FL, but I can tell you that I don't ever want to do drywall again. I'd hang it, but I'll forever leave the taping to others. They can do it much faster and better than I can. Demo old sheetrock though? I'm all for that one :) Clear out the furniture, lay down some dropcloth if you have to, and grab a hammer.

Prices are going to vary widely around the country I'm sure.

Here, you'd pay 50 cents/sqft for hang, finish, without texture.

Have no clue what demo would cost......

Right now in Florida you can likely have dry wall hung and finished for less than the time it takes you to hang it and finish it yourself.

The demo you should do yourself. This can get expensive.

The texture finish the drywall company actually uses a machine to shoot the stuff on the walls. It's fast for them.

Right now I can have drywall hung and finished for under $20 a sheet. I think a sheet of drywall is $12 ish at a big box store.

Everything costs less right now in Florida because everything and everyone is available. I was gonna do my own siding. But the same guys who framed my place can do the entire house in one day. It'd take me probably a week or two.

$12 a sheet? Holy cow! I'm gonna check prices at Lowe's next time I'm there. Sounds really high.

Nev - If you know someone experienced who can teach you, then I suggest to try it. Perhaps you won't mind it. Sanding is the worst - makes a mess, gets all over you, and you need a good mask. Application of the joint compound isn't all that bad, though it can become tedious.

Textured finish is usually more.

You can texture the ceiling with a stamp tool or you can rent a popcorn blower (that's what I call it, not sure it's real name). I hate using the blower.

You can texture the wall via spray or roller. The spray tends to come out nicer, but you really have to cover everything up.

Thanks guys for your advice. Im thinkin I will hire someone to install the boards at $20 a sheet, and demo myself.
I hope I find someone who is a real pro, not some Home DYI...
I really like this site !
An again Thanks.

Don't go with some handy man service. Go with a drywall company. They'll have it knocked out in two days.

4x10 (maybe it was 4x8 ) was regular priced at $8.88 at Lowe's today.

You've got lower prices than we do by about $2 a sheet. I've got to go there this afternoon. I'll check it out.

Hiring a contractor to do the work for you is a good idea.

Yes I agree, you should hire a contractor... unless you have tons of time on your hands, dont mind the dust and know how to do it professionaly.

Hire it out,use pros that do it everyday. They will have it done and ready to paint before you would finish hanging it. Do your own demo and painting. Go on line and access the construction Bluebook for your area, or contact the Better Business Bureau in your county, or check out the contractor boards at your local Home Depot or Lowes. Don't be afraid to check out their references.

Absolutely hire out hanging and taping----paint yourself. Nothing is worse than a amateur job of finishing sheetrock walls and especially ceilings.
