We redid the roof and it took a long time. we had some rain enter an exposed area. this caused the sheetrock to swell and bubble in part of a wall. the bubbles are quite soft and I can push them with my thumb.

I'm trying to figure out what do to about this. I'd like to avoid tearing out all the sheetwock on the damaged wall.

Will it shrink back once it dries? can I plaster over it to cover the defects?

TIA

The problem if you don't replace it will be mold. It'll start on the backside of the drywall and grow until it gets to the studs. Then the studs will mold and rot ..etc..etc. You may not need to replace all the sheetrock on the wall - only the affected area.

thanks, i had a contractor look at it, he said there wasn't insulation behind the wall material, so it would most likely be able to dry out ok. he indicated some of the bubbles will diminish as it drys, so i guess I'll wait and see.
