I am a home inspector and I ran into a problem that I can find no info about, and hope someone here can direct me to the right place.
I just inspected a house with an apparent window leak problem. After many false starts, I located the source of water penetration. After pulling up the starter course and first row of roofing shingles, I saw that the roof sheathing was about 1 1/2" short of the fascia. Water had been splashing/spilling out of the gutter and getting through this opening, then behind the siding, and discharging around the window.
My question is, why was the sheathing short? I suspect poor quality workmanship, but could it have possibly been designed that way? or could it be a condition that occured over time, like some wacky case of truss uplift?
Any thoughts, advice or direction is truly appriciated. Thanks in advance, Ray
