Most people like a new look but I wanted a shed that reminded me of my Grandpa's workshop. So my Dad and I built a rough sawn shed in the pictures. Built the main structure from sept through december last year and this year have just been doing some of the painting, etc. Framing is mortised and siding is all 5/4rotary sawn white ash and poplar from trees we cut down on the property. Boards were put up literally dripping wet from the mill (raining that day). Battens are all on the inside which takes twice as long than exterior ones and not as good for weatherproofing (and not recommended) but I like the way it looks and it was worth the extra time and money to weather it inside - which I am still doing. Haven't had issues with cupping, nail pops, etc even on a 19" wide board and since its drying on both sides equally it seems to have worked the way we nailed it. Its been 12 months so far. Still have a bunch of work to do but most of the big work is done. I am certainly not a professional but I enjoy doing this kind of stuff.

Very impressive! Looks nice and rustic just like something you would see in the country! Did you use your own rotary saw or did you take the trees to a sawmill to get them cut? Also, is that a wood stove pipe I see in the second picture coming out of the roof? That'll be nice and cozy for any winter projects that you'll do. Great job!

Thanks. We had the trees sawn up at a local place called Sanor's sawmill in Beloit, Oh. They are the only one's near us that still use a rotary saw mill instead of band mills + plus they're only a couple of miles a way and the lumber is so even and straight
That is a wood stove - attached a picture of the inside - Until I get the metal roof insulated it is still kind of cool in there but I like the sound of rain on metal. Have a great Labor Day!

That looks amazing on the inside!!!! Good to see you've got the heat barrier there on the walls for the wood stove. I like the parking space for the ATV (I think??) as well. Neat. And is that a mini bar or something in the back?
