-A little long winded but unbelievable - So my husband and I have been looking into purchasing a fair bit of land and developing it into 5 acre mini ranches, very popular in this area. Anyway, we had stopped to get the opions of some older/wiser friends of our who live in the area. It got interesting when they warned us against using the county's surveyor, and told us to higher the job to somebody else. Recently in our local paper the county announced that it would be deeding several small parcels of land to miscellaneous land owners in the area. Their "reasoning" was that these parcels were to expensive for the county to maintain. Truth be known, the county surveyor is actually under lawsuit for fraudulent surveys. Best of all, one curious land owner after noticing some guy driving around asked what he was doing. He shared that he was doing some surveys for the county and was setting markers. She asked why he didn't have any survey equipment and he invited her to ride along. Turns out he would start at point A, in his truck, set the odometer, and drive to point B and set a marker, using the odometer as his tool. What a joke! His current lawsuit is due to being six feet off on a property line, unfortunately that line was nearly a mile long. That's a lot of land lost to some guys crazy method of science. Oh and the county has decided to keep the man employed and make excuses for his actions, rather than taking serious action.
