How many times has a building inspector required you to use an SE for a residential remod project.
20+ years in the biz and it's happened to me twice.
This project was number 2.

My attach didn't work
I haven't had an building inspector make me - but I've requested one on my own. Was doing a remodel of a deli shop to a bank.. and I wasn't too sure the floor was going to hold up a new safe :)
BTW - welcome to the forum Bob.

I have been doing residential remodeling for about 8 years now, and I have had to call an SE in twice. Both times that I have done this is because I have had to remove a steel column and an I-Beam and replace then with one bigger I-beam to create an unobstructed room.
I seem to do many basement finishes, and in nearly every one, the floor plan ends up suffering from all of the posts that are scattered all over the basement. I believe, even if there are no immediate plans to finish the basement when the house is built, that the the architecht should at least consider the fact that the basement will be remodeled somewhere down the line. Because I can tell you from experience that retrofitting a 1,200 lb. I-beam or digging new spread footings into an existing basement is really not that much fun. But then again, I guess that is why it is called "work."
