I had a stone pool deck (with new concrete slab as base) and stone covered patio (with concrete house foundation as base) that blended seamlessly together before the stone mason made saw cuts everyone (including where the pool deck meets the covered patio). The stone was layed in randon rectangles pattern on a 3 inch mortar bed which lays on top of the concrete slab and foundation, and the saw cuts create visual separations between different areas that is not visually appealling. Are these saw cuts necessary? Thanks
