Rake board/fascia size

Assuming you use trusses or rafters made from 2x4's, what size rake board and fascia is typical to use? 2x4 like the rafters/trusses? 2x6? What is better or preferred? Will a 2x4 fascia board be wide enough to fully support the rain gutters? I've seen a few different ways but wondering opinions on what is "right"

Typically the subfascias are 2x4 stock, the soffits add to that, and a 1x6 finish fascia is used.

There is no 'right' or necessarily 'better' way to install facias.

In my region fascia and fly rafters (rakes) are usually 2x6 with the the odd 2x4 seen once in a while.

What ultimately gets used depends upon the style of home and local convention in my experience.

When insatlling vinyl siding and soffits, the rakes and fascia get wrapped, so we always install 2x6 fly-rafters with a 1x2 on top and just a rake, we install a 1x6 with a 1x2 on top and 2x6 fascia.

If the house is getting wood trim, we install a 2x4 rake and a 2x4 sub-fascia and then a 1x6 gets installed on top of the rake and fascia. We install a 2x6 rake and 2x6 sub-fascia and then a 1x8 gets installed on top of the rake and sub-fascia. I've done house where we used 1x10 rakes and fascia.

Never seen a 2x4 fascia before with a gutter on it. Maybe people do it on sheds, but no on a house.

Your welcome. Most houses around here have 1x2 on them when using 1x6 or 2x6 rake. I guess that's just the way they did it and keep doing it. When we get into using 1x8 and 1x0 we use crown molding or rake molding.
