I am having problems with light mortar joints on my project. It is from inconsistent water content in the mortar and inconsistent tooling of joints. I used Holcim mortamix type N (light grey) and Hanson brick 222 red. Is there an acid stain or toner that I can spray on the wall and it will only darken the joints and not affect the brick? If you know of anything that will help please respond.

It is most likely the color difference is due to the timing for striking and creating a different smooth texture that has more of a cement skim and looks lighter. Even wet brick or a wet batch can be evened out by waiting and striking at the right time.
An acid stain will not so what you want.
I hate to give recommendations when there are people around when there are more qualified masons to make suggestions.
