Hey Guys,

I need help in locating installation manuals (from websites or otherwise) and any other info for metal roofs. I have installed 3 roofs and fortunately they were all straight gables. A four, a six, and an eighteen-pitch storefront. (I framed the last two and was able to insure that they were plumb, level, and square. I've been asked to do more complex roofs and am very much interested in doing them. I am an experienced carpenter (by trade) and have installed 3-tab, dimensional, etc., and would like to do more metal. It is used a lot in my area, especially due to the economy, the type of housing, location etc,. But I would like to have more info to be more prepared. I am a firm believer that "the one who is most prepared for battle, wins the battle."
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanx,

Rascal

Hi Rascal,

There are mainly two types of metal roofing systems:

Metal Shingle
Standing Seam

Metal Shingle systems, are usually based on interlocking design, which means that every individual metal shingle has to be interlocked with the shingles that will follow. These systems are easy to install on gable roofs, and get a little bit trickier on the complex roofs. The manufacturer of a metal shingle system should be able to supply installation manual that provides information for the flashing details e.t.c.

Standing seam roofing systems are vertical panels that get connected in a side by side fashion. The systems are different from manufacturer to manufacturer.

You can view a basic metal roofing installation guide (http://www.newenglandmetalroof.com/metal_roofing/how-install.html) which describes the basic installation concepts for snap-lock mechanism based standing seam roofing system. The guide is very basic in nature, but it will be soon expanded to cover specific techniques and in detailed installation methods.

I made a page recently that can act as an informational picture gallery for metal roofing. Hopefully, this will help. http://www.albertsroofing.com/Tin%20Roofing%20photo_gallery.htm
