The wall which I wish to remove is between the first and second floors of my house.
I'm using 3 LVL's 9.5" which will be supported on the outside wall of the house. The other end will be supported by a post which transfers load to the footing in the basement.
The outside wall has a double top plate and I wish to have the beam under the second floor, floor joists. I will use a post to transfer the load to the foundatin wall.
My question is, how do you connect the beam (I think you call it "let in") to the wall. Do you cut the double top plate? Or do you notch the beam? Or is there a much better way?
thanks,
Rideau
