Quick question.
I am taking out a span of closets about 12 long. House was buily in 58. Is it possible the walls where the doors would be are load bearing? The header above each door is a 2x8 with small blocks about 2" and then a double top plate.
There is one stud on the bottom of the header (header not actually touching the stud on one end). The is another stud next to the header stud going up to the double top plate. There is no full bottom plate. Just a block large enough for the 2x's to sit on. Floor is terazo.
The end of the closet terminates at an exterior wall.
House is CB, single story hand cut rafters.
Am I just looking at an over built house, was this common for the time???
Can't imagine it would be load bearing.
Thanks
Jordan
