I will soon be putting an addition on my home. Since I am in New Hampshire, I will be framing with 2 x 6's for the insulation benefits. I am leaning toward going with the studs 16" apart as opposed to 24" for the added strength. My first question is whether or not I will truly benefit from this. I have been told that if I go every 24" the walls will benefit from wider wells of insulation.
My second question is whether or not it would be ok to frame the roof with trusses 24" o.c. if the studs are 16" o.c.? My gut feeling tells me that each truss should rest over a stud?
Any help is much appreciated!!

Typical framing is just what you describe. Wall studs @16" o.c. and trusses at 24" o.c. In thid circumstance you'll just need a double top plate.

Thanks a lot! That's the way I'll go then.

By the way, your diagram of a typical gable end overhang helped me sleep again. I just couldn't picture an easy way to create a 16" overhang all the way around. Thank you.
