Does anyone know what type of board this is?

I'm gutting an old cottage bathroom which was built in the 60's.

The walls have a soft ~1/2" fibrous material in behind the panelling. (I can pull it apart with my hands) This is only in the walls of the bathroom. I can only guess it would be for sound proofing?

Does anyone know what this material is?
