Using HSS

Our architect has specified using 3" square HSS columns to support a ridge beam on a rather large dormer. I'm looking for some advice on working with HSS - where to buy, how to make connections with LVL or dimensional lumber, etc.

Your architect should provide a detail of the connection. I can't imagine that High-Strength Steel is really required for that application, but it is probably available from any iron or steel fabricating shop or warehouse.
