I would like to build a concrete block fish pond on top of my pool deck. I would like to know if my pool deck can support the fish pond and water that it will hold. The pond will be 15X6X2.8 and made of solid concrete block. I estimate that it will hold around 1500 gallons of water. The pond will be be built on the end of the pool deck and will be 4 feet from the edge of the deep end of the pool. Should I install an extra footer under the pool deck in the area where the pond will sit?

A lot would depend on the type of pool that you have. A gunite pools with 1/2" bar spaced 12" OC - V&H would hold just about any load you can place upon it's top edge.

A steel frame-vinyl liner... not so much.

Really though that type of weight... maybe 15000 lbs... put on your deck slab will likely force it to crack, sink or pitch and could cause problems around the pools edge not to mention the plumbing. Unless you know exactly how your pool and deck were constructed it would be risky.

Can't you pour and independent footer for the entire pond by cutting out the portion of the deck you were going to rest it on?
