Existing 6:12 pitch cottage roof rafters are double 2x6's @ 4' o.c. with double 2x12 ridge. Roof sheathing is actual 2" thick T&G. Think northern Ontario for snow loads. Ridge extends a little over 6' beyond the gable end wall and there are 2x8's acting as sub facia running from the outside top corners of the gable end walls to the extended point of the ridge. Been there over 50 years.

Question is

Existing main part of cottage is 12' wide.

I want to add a 20' wide room on one end and continue the existing roof planes, which would result in the ridge beam over the proposed addition extending 10' beyond the gable end wall. Is what is hopefully depicted in the hopefully attached diagram any kind of start?

I'm not doing the calculations, but I have severe doubts that a 10-foot cantilever is possible with any kind of wood.
