As noted in a previous post, I'm planning to attach a 12x36 porch to my house. The spec sheet provided by the city indicates that the porch must be able to sustain horizontal wind and wind uplift loads of 75 miles per hour with a 90 3-second gust. These calculations must be shown on the detail.

I'm assuming this has something to do with the bracing and tiedowns, but am unsure how to demonstrate this. The city has adopted the 2006 Int'l Residential Code. Does the code have tables or detailed requirements that will demonstrate compliance with this requirement.

Thanks.

Terry

This is NJ's '06 IRC codebook online;
http://www2.iccsafe.org/states/newjersey/NJ_Residential/Residential_Frameset.htm
Download chapter 3, Building Planning, the wind requirements are in there. Table R 301.2(2) is giving the loads/wind speed/roof angle numbers, there's lots to read there.
Porches are not specifically adressed so depending on the department it is in their authority and it may be simpler to hire an engineer. BTW, when we adopted the "I codes" it was also called "the engineers full employment act", they weren't kidding :)

RW was right on your other post as well, can't bear on the brick veneer, which the lags would do.
