Hi: Could anyone guide me in framing a roof for a 5 sided Cabana ? It's 11' along two of the sides(back walls) and 5.5' along the other two sides(side walls) and 8' across the front of it. I'm not a carpenter and any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I drew two different versions using your measurements. I'm thinking the one on the right side. Maybe I'm wrong with both. It's hard to tell with your information.

If it's like the drawing on the right where the 11' walls walls are 90°, your front wall will have to be 7'9-5/16". I just drew an 11' x 11' square and came in 5'6" off each side.

There are an infinite number of possible plan views that can be drawn based on the information given. We need more info, for example, what's the measurement of the diagonal between the 11 foot sides? Or, can you give us the lengths of any of the other diagonals, or the angles at the vertices of the pentagon?
Also, what's the height of the roof, or what are the pitches?

Sorry for being non- specific. It's the second version(the one on the right). I understand there is something called a "fulcrum" roof that I could build. Any recommendations ? Thanks again. It's Exactly like the one Joe Carola drew. I don't have a height in mind ,other than I don't want the roof to be too steep.(perhaps 2' taller at the center than the sides- I'm open to recommendations). Also should I use 2x4 or 2x6's ?

How about a 5/12 pitch with equal overhangs? If you do that the hips will sit off the corner and you'll have a 6-5/8/12 pitch on the clipped wall. I drew it with equal overhhangs and the walls square with a 7'9-5/16" front wall.

Looks great. Should I use 2x4's or 2x6's ?

I'm not from your area, but I can tell you that I've used 2x6, 2x8 and 2x10's for something that size before and they're all designed by an Architect with a set of plans and permits. So I can't help you with what size you should be using. You don't have to have plans or a permit to tell you what you need?
That's all you wanted to know? Are you cutting the rafters?

Yes, I'll be cutting the rafters and I'll probably be using 2x6's. How should I cut them to achieve the desired slope ? Thanks again, you've been a tremendous help.
